Our Story
Founded in 1983 by climber and author Bob Gaines, Vertical Adventures set the standard for professional rock climbing instruction in California. Over four decades, the school built its reputation on small student-to-instructor ratios, a comprehensive curriculum, an exceptional safety record, and a commitment to teaching climbers — not just taking them climbing.
Today, Vertical Adventures continues under the ownership of Jarad Stiles and Chris Baumann, two AMGA-certified guides who have carried forward the school's founding values while expanding its programs and locations. The same care, professionalism, and passion that defined the school from the beginning defines every climb we guide today.
